Job summary

Symetra is seeking a STD Team Lead to supervise a claims unit, mentor examiners, and ensure timely adjudication of Short-Term Disability claims. The role emphasizes coaching, performance, and collaboration with sales, underwriting, and actuarial teams to improve outcomes.

You will oversee file reviews, provide constructive feedback, and drive quality and production while representing a positive, inclusive work environment.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of group disability claims experience.
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
• Ability to function with limited supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Coaching and mentoring teammates to enable excellence in customer service and claims management.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the processing of Short-Term Disability (STD) claims in an STD Claims Unit to ensure timely adjudication.
• Ensures achievement of customer service and production objectives.
• Supports claims partnership with sales, underwriting, actuarial, and other departments.
• Coaches examiners to improve case strategy, decision-making, negotiation and communication.
• Handles a caseload of claims and releases/reviews payments within authority.
