Job summary

Affirm is building a private bank and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small, AI-native team responsible for banking infra, data platform, and operational tooling. You will set technical direction, own the hardest problems, and drive architectural decisions across surfaces with direct exposure to leadership.

You will design, implement, and operate high-stakes systems, including vendor integration, compliance-ready architecture, and reliable runbooks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level credentials.
• Proven track record owning ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end.
• Experience setting technical direction across sizable surfaces.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development and large-scale infra.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for bank systems, data platform, and CI/CD.
• Design, build, integrate, and operate high-stakes components end-to-end.
• Define patterns, standards, and documentation for a small, high-skill team.
• Lead AI-first initiatives and integrate agentic workflows into engineering.
• Lead vendor evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight.
