Job summary

Affirm seeks a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small, AI-native team building the bank's core surfaces—cloud infra, data platform, and vendor integrations. You will own architecture, patterns, and technical strategy across the surface area with direct exposure to senior leadership.

You will shape end-to-end systems for reliability and regulatory readiness, mentor engineers, and drive adoption of AI-led development while coordinating with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with staff-level ownership.
• Ability to own ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication for executives and auditors.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for bank surfaces and cloud infra.
• Design, build, integrate, and operate high-risk stack components.
• Lead code and design reviews and establish patterns and standards.
• Ship AI-first capabilities leveraging agentic workflows.
• Drive vendor evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight.
• Define integration boundaries between bank and affirm Inc.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit.
• Own reliability, observability, and disaster-recovery practices.
• Mentor engineers and raise the bar as team grows.
