Affirm is building its own bank and this Staff Software Engineer role is one of the most senior IC seats on the engineering team, responsible for the systems behind the bank, including vendor integration, the data platform, and operations.

You will set technical direction across surfaces, own the hardest problems end-to-end, and push AI-enabled workflows as a core capability, while maintaining regulatory separation and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level responsibilities.
• Own ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end through launch and operations.
• Experience setting architecture and multi-quarter strategy across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across the bank's systems and architecture.
• Own the hardest problems end-to-end with incident response and clear runbooks.
• Establish patterns and standards to enable a small team to punch above its weight.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and push AI-leveraged engineering as a core capability.
• Lead vendor selection, integration, and ongoing oversight of third-party platforms.
