Job summary

MZLA Technologies Corporation is seeking a Staff Designer to shape Thunderbolt's product experience from early development to enterprise deployment. You will craft prototypes in the Thunderbolt codebase, define AI-enabled interactions, and build reusable patterns with product, design, and engineering teams.

You will ensure user trust, accessibility, security, and maintainability while contributing to an open-source culture across global teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in design engineering, front-end engineering, UX engineering, or closely related roles with leadership impact.
• Strong product and interaction design judgment including usability, accessibility, information architecture, and polish.
• Experience designing or building AI-enabled product experiences with trust and control as a focus.
• Experience translating ambiguous concepts into usable workflows, prototypes, and shipped experiences.
• Proven ability to mentor, coordinate across teams, and influence beyond individual deliverables.
• Awareness of AI, privacy, security, and regulatory considerations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams.
• Portfolio or shipped work demonstrating design-to-code execution and interactive prototypes.
• Experience with enterprise software, developer tools, or technical user workflows.
• Experience contributing to design systems and reusable front-end patterns.
• Familiarity with user research, usability testing, and rapid experimentation.
• Experience in open-source or highly collaborative engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Build functional prototypes and product experiments directly in the Thunderbolt codebase.
• Translate ambiguous ideas and workflows into clear, usable product experiences.
• Define interaction patterns for AI-powered chat, search, research, and automation.
• Use AI-assisted tools while ensuring quality, usability, security, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and enterprise teams to refine direction.
• Contribute production-quality front-end code where appropriate.
• Decide when prototypes should be discarded, refined, generalized, or productionized.
• Improve usability, accessibility, consistency, and polish of Thunderbolt UX.
• Develop reusable components and design-system elements for the broader team.
• Bring user-centered perspective to discussions on AI behavior, permissions, and trust.
• Design for enterprise needs including data sensitivity, admin visibility, auditability, and security.
