Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Software Test Engineer to join a remote team supporting the Veterans Affairs (VA). The role requires strong programming skills in C#, .NET, Java, or Python, and extensive manual and automated testing experience in an Agile environment.

You will design and execute test plans, write test cases and scripts, drive verification activities, document results, and report findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, .NET, Java, or Python.
• Experience with both manual and automated testing.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and SDLC concepts.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, JUnit, TestNG).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of SQL and database validation for stored data.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, and services.
• Knowledge of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with various testing types (functional, regression, integration, system, UAT).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and procedures to ensure information systems meet requirements.
• Develop test schedules and approaches.
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios.
• Lead test reviews with stakeholders.
• Perform tests on IT systems to ensure defect-free operation.
• Document and communicate test results.
• Support analysis and resolution of issues.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Provide technical solutions to complex problems.
• Mentor junior testers.
