Qualifications

• College graduate or business equivalent.
• 7+ years underwriting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting function and John Hancock products.
• Ability to guide junior underwriters.
• Excellent time management to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Identify and provide solutions to workflow and system issues in underwriting.
• Negotiate and manage time and resources to meet deadlines.
• Provide training and guidance to junior underwriters.
• Process auditing, appeals reviews and contestable claim reviews.
• Audit underwriting decisions and ensure guidelines are followed.
• Audit medical record summaries for guideline compliance.
• Assist management with research on risk assessment.
• Process formal underwriting appeals and complaints.
• Review fraud referrals and conduct book of business reviews.
• Review contestable claims for misrepresentation.
• Maintain professional relationships in a self-directed team.
• Act as subject matter expert for junior staff and management.
• Assist management with staff training and consults.
