Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer for a 100% remote role within the Veterans Affairs department. The role demands extensive experience in manual and automated testing, and strong programming knowledge (C#, Java, Python).

The position is full-time, US-based, with a Public Trust clearance and a salary range of $85,389-$116,975. Candidates should have 10+ years in testing, ISTQB/CSTE/CSQA certifications preferred, and experience with SDLC/Agile methodologies,

Qualifications

Proven experience with complex software testing projects.
Experience in both manual and automated testing environments.
Strong knowledge of SDLC and Agile methodologies.
Ability to write and execute comprehensive test cases and scripts.
Familiarity with multiple test automation frameworks and tools.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
Proficiency in API, web, and security testing.
Understanding of performance testing tools like JMeter/Gatling.
Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA/Bugzilla).
Knowledge of SQL/data validation for testing results.
Ability to work across testing types: functional, regression, integration, system, usability, UAT.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong communication and collaboration.
Ability to work independently and mentor junior testers.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure IT systems meet requirements.
Create test schedules and approaches for projects.
Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios.
Lead test execution and verification activities with stakeholders.
Document and communicate test results and metrics.
Support analysis and resolution of open issues and defects.
Provide technical solutions to complex problems and develop future configurations.
Produce daily test metrics and reports.
Contribute to other IT systems engineering tasks as needed.
Apply technical principles to meet organizational objectives.
Mentor junior testers and guide testing activities.
