Job summary

Intuit is seeking a senior payroll tax expert and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead end-to-end resolution of payroll tax issues across Notices, Corrections, and Amendments within Payroll Tax Operations. The Staff Payroll Tax Processor will act as a technical lead and coach, owning the most complex cases while guiding less experienced staff.

The role emphasizes solving hard problems, building team capability, and continuously improving processes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notices; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses.
• Hands-on experience preparing/amending Federal (941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across diverse states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, deposits, penalties, interest.
• Multi-state payroll tax expertise including reciprocal agreements and local tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the team's queue, owning full case lifecycle.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X and state equivalents) across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions; drive correction workflows.
• Maintain high productivity case resolution with accuracy across Corrections, Amendments, and Notices.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers; propose root-cause solutions and drive resolution.
• Serve as the primary real-time resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors, sharing knowledge via Slack/Zoom and coaching teammates.
