Job summary

Intuit’s Payroll Tax Operations seeks a senior payroll tax expert and SME to resolve complex notices, amendments, and corrections across multiple states. You will lead end-to-end case lifecycles, coach junior staff, and drive process improvements within PTO.

The role combines technical tax expertise with leadership, SOP creation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver accurate responses and timely resolutions for customers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and payroll corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatements and agency responses with documentation.
• Experience preparing amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, deposits, penalties and interest.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the queue, owning full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple periods and jurisdictions.
• Maintain high productivity resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notices with accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers, and propose resolutions.
• Serve as real-time resource for Senior Processors, coaching and teaching the resolution process.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions with team members using SBIC feedback.
• Contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and process meetings; author SOPs and KB articles.
• Identify trends and drive resolutions with stakeholders; support cross-functional collaboration.
