Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Network & Security Engineer to design, operate, troubleshoot, and improve enterprise network-security infrastructure. You will work with Palo Alto Networks NGFWs, Panorama, and Cisco switching, ensuring highly available services and secure segmentation.

You will act as a technical escalation point, lead architecture initiatives, and mentor engineering teams while partnering with SOC and cloud teams to reduce risk and maintain resiliency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years (or commensurate experience).
• 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, network security, firewall administration, or security infrastructure operations.
• 5+ years of hands-on Palo Alto Networks firewall experience in a production enterprise environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto Panorama, including multi-device policy management, templates, device groups, upgrades, configuration management, and troubleshooting.
• Strong expertise in TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, ARP, routing, NAT, VPNs, and packet-level troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, deployment, administration, and lifecycle management of Palo Alto NGFW environments (PAN-OS).
• Own centralized firewall management through Palo Alto Panorama (device groups, templates, upgrades).
• Design and govern security policies using zero-trust, least-privilege, risk-based principles.
• Configure and troubleshoot security zones, NAT, VPNs, and App-ID policies.
• Lead enterprise network-segmentation and microsegmentation initiatives.
• Develop secure controls for traffic between users, servers, apps, and cloud resources.
• Architect and test HA deployments (Active/Passive, Active/Active).
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on projects.
