Job summary

FNTS is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to join our remote-enabled team. You will guide upgrades of z/OS, implement standardized maintenance, and lead efforts to improve performance and reduce complexity across client environments.

You will oversee IBM/ISV software installations and deliver documentation, templates, and governance for mainframe projects. The role requires deep expertise in JES2, SMP/E, WLM, SMF/RMF, and TCP/IP/VTA protocols, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in

Qualifications

Proven experience in z/OS operating system upgrades, mass maintenance deployment, and software installation.
In-depth knowledge of z/OS components: JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, ASM, GRS, SDSF, TSO and RACF
Strong understanding of communication protocols (VTAM, TCP/IP) and LPAR configuration via HMC
Expertise in storage management (SMS, HSM, DFDSS, VSAM, IDCAMS, ICF Catalogs)
Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mainframe Senior Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

Guide best practices and mentor team members on z/OS upgrade optimization
Design standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance
Lead efforts to optimize system performance and reduce operational complexity
Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM and ISV software products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan OS upgrades with minimal business impact
Develop technical documentation and rollout templates
Drive adoption of new technologies (e.g., Sysplex enhancements)
Act as SME for mainframe projects and provide technical direction
Provide advanced troubleshooting and escalation handling
Participate in after-hours and weekend support as required
