Qualifications

• 15–20 years in individual life underwriting
• Proven track record handling large & complex cases for high-net-worth applicants
• Industry education such as FALU or FLMI
• Specialized depth in individual life underwriting incl. high-dollar cases
• Experience with reinsurance frameworks & treaty language interpretation
• Expertise reviewing complex financial statements & tax returns
• Familiarity with emerging technologies (EHR, GenAI, wearables) and behavioral economics
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making, adaptable to precedent
• Excellent communication & collaboration with leadership

Responsibilities

• Adjudicate the most complex and high-value cases within approval authority
• Provide guidance on escalated cases and troubleshoot complex issues
• Communicate with field partners and home office to gather info and convey decisions
• Build partnerships with distribution and field leaders for alignment
• Apply deep reinsurance expertise and evaluate treaty requirements
• Serve as trusted underwriting partner to drive case placement and relationships
• Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements
• Champion adoption of modern underwriting tools and platforms
• Mentor and train underwriters in advanced financial underwriting
• Monitor industry trends to inform prudent business decisions
