Job summary

Guardian Life is seeking a fully remote Senior Life Underwriter to provide expert judgment on highly complex cases and lead a team of underwriters. You will steer adjudication during peak volumes, promote analytics-driven improvements, and pilot new underwriting technologies.

You will coach staff in digital tools and best practices, ensuring ethical decisions and regulatory compliance while collaborating with distribution, product, and technology teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive life underwriting expertise with authority on complex, high-value cases.
• Minimum 5 years of life underwriting experience with leadership ability.
• Experience with automated underwriting platforms (RHO, PIA) and QC management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management; ability to work with reinsurers.
• Ability to coach underwriters to adopt digital tools and workflows.
• Commitment to ethical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert judgment on highly complex and escalated cases per guidelines.
• Oversee adjudication during peak volumes, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Lead and develop a team of underwriters; set priorities and SLAs.
• Leverage analytics dashboards to monitor mortality, placement, and cycle time.
• Pilot new underwriting tech and vendor solutions; quantify outcomes.
• Coach underwriters in analytics, digital tools, and customer-centric practices.
• Negotiate appeals using professional judgment and business sense.
• Coordinate with field force and home office to gather info and decisions.
