Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer (Financial Focus) to join a remote US team. You will curate high-quality life sciences datasets and govern annotation guidelines to enable predictive analytics across clients.

You will collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers and data engineers, driving end-to-end dataset development, model schemas, and evaluation cycles while ensuring data provenance and compliance standards are met.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree or equivalent professional experience in life sciences, medical sciences, or computer science.
• At least 3 years of experience with production-grade life science datasets and AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; comfort with automation concepts.
• Experience with large, complex datasets and data preprocessing.
• Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, and agent-based workflows.
• Ability to create MCPs and integrate into agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving and independent work abilities.
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate clinical and life sciences requirements into repeatable model training patterns.
• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model schema, vocabulary and behavior.
• Design, build, and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs.
• Write and maintain annotation guidelines and dataset schemas.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists.
• Train SMEs to run evaluation rounds and translate feedback to model improvements.
• Run iterative dataset experiments to close gaps with SMEs.
• Maintain dataset provenance, licensing and compliance per GxP standards.
• Contribute to knowledge base and taxonomy work for domain-grounded LLMs.
