Job summary

Norstella seeks a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to bridge scientific expertise with applied AI development. You will curate high-quality datasets and collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model behavior.

You will design fine-tuning datasets, write guidelines, and ensure adherence to GxP standards while contributing to knowledge base and agentic workflows within a remote US team.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years in production-grade life science datasets, including AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; comfortable with automation concepts.
• Experience with large, complex data sets; data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Experience with Generative AI/LLMs including agents across SDLC.
• Experience creating MCPs and integrating them into Agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills between technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex clinical, regulatory, and life sciences requirements into repeatable patterns for model training.
• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model schema and behavior.
• Develop methods and parameters of model behavior based on requirements and iterations.
• Build and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs for end-to-end tasks.
• Write and maintain annotation guidelines ensuring consistent schema and vocabulary.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists for production alignment.
• Train SME graders for eval rounds and translate feedback to tool calls.
• Maintain dataset provenance, licensing, and regulatory compliance (GxP).
• Lead proofs of concept for domain capabilities and contribute to knowledge base.
