Job summary

Norstella seeks a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to join a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers, and data engineers. You will curate high-quality fine-tuned datasets and shape the model’s schema, vocabulary, and target behavior with SME input.

You will design annotation guidelines, maintain provenance and compliance across GxP standards, and contribute to knowledge base while advancing domain capabilities.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of production-grade life science datasets experience.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; automation concepts.
• Experience with Generative AI and LLMs across the SDLC.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex clinical and life sciences requirements into repeatable model patterns.
• Develop methods and parameters of model behavior with cross-functional teams.
• Design and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs across tasks.
• Author and maintain annotation guidelines governing dataset construction.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists and engineers.
• Train SME graders and translate feedback to model improvements.
• Run iterative dataset experiments and measure impact of changes.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance documentation for datasets.
• Contribute to knowledge base and domain-grounded workflows.
