Job summary

Norstella seeks a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to bridge domain science with applied AI. You will curate high-quality data and design fine-tuning datasets for predictive analytics across clients.

You will work with cross-functional teams of data scientists and ML engineers, define schemas, and ensure dataset provenance and compliance in life sciences settings. Remote US-based role with strong growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience with production-grade life science datasets.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; automation concepts.
• Experience with large and complex data sets, including data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Experience with Generative AI, especially LLMs, including agents and SDLC integration.
• Experience creating MCPs and integrating them into Agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving and independent working style; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex clinical and life sciences knowledge into model training patterns and gold standard examples.
• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model schema and behavior.
• Design, build, and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs across tasks.
• Author and maintain annotation guidelines to ensure consistency.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists for evaluation and production needs.
• Train SME graders and translate feedback into tool improvements.
• Run iterative dataset experiments to identify gaps and close them with targeted changes.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance for datasets meeting GxP standards.
• Conduct proofs of concept for novel domain capabilities.
• Contribute to Norstella’s knowledge base and taxonomy; design agentic workflows.
