Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer with a focus on financial applications. You will bridge deep domain expertise and applied AI, curating high-quality datasets and guiding model behavior across cross-functional teams of data scientists and engineers.

You will design annotation guidelines, define taxonomies, and ensure regulatory and IP compliance while driving novel domain capabilities and knowledge graph enhancements.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years in production-grade life science datasets, including AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; comfort with automation concepts.
• Experience with large, complex datasets; data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Experience with Generative AI/LLMs, including agents, throughout SDLC.
• Experience creating MCPs and integrating into agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving and independent work capabilities.
• Excellent communication between technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate clinical/regulatory life sciences requirements into repeatable patterns for model training.
• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model schema and behavior.
• Develop and refine fine-tuning datasets and annotation guidelines.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists.
• Train SMEs to run eval rounds and translate feedback to tooling changes.
• Conduct dataset experiments to identify gaps and improve data quality.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance for all datasets.
