Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced backend engineering leader to set and execute the technical strategy for a high-availability team. You will partner with product, design and analytics to align architecture with business needs and regulatory expectations, while driving reliability and performance.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years building scalable backend systems in Python or Kotlin, with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes experience.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin in production environments.
• Strong background in distributed architectures and data accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics in development lifecycles.
• Advocate for scalable, observable and reliable technical solutions.
• Own team operations, monitoring, on-call readiness and playbooks.
• Raise quality by defining review standards and sharing practices.
• Mentor engineers and grow talent through example and feedback.
