Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an Outpatient Facility Medical Coder for a full-time remote role. You will assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes, abstract data elements, and ensure adherence to official guidelines and client coding rules while maintaining quality and productivity.

Responsibilities include chart reviews, physician queries, and ongoing coding education. This role offers telecommuting nationwide within the U.S. with standard hours and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• AHIMA/AAPC coder certification (e.g., CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC) maintained annually
• 3+ years of inpatient DRG coding in an acute care facility
• 3+ years of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG coding using an encoder
• Proficiency with Windows PC and Excel, plus EMR systems

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, and abstraction for facility services.
• Expert knowledge in Inpatient DRG Coding.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity per Optum.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay updated with QM/Director materials.
• Participate in coding dept meetings and education.
