Maximus is seeking a full-time Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client. This is a remote position, requiring an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

You will lead the development of mainframe COBOL solutions, review code, and guide junior staff. Responsibilities include maintaining IBM COBOL programs, updating documentation, performing unit tests, and collaborating with management to deliver compliant, efficient tax processing applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; 5+ years of experience preferred.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• 5+ years of IBM COBOL experience; DB2, CICS, SQL proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of IBM COBOL modules meeting system requirements.
• Update documentation (FSPs/PRPs, Visio diagrams, spreadsheets).
• Write, test, and review COBOL programs; conduct unit tests.
• Code reviews, debugging, and integration of modules.
• Guide and train other developers; assist testing and remediation.
• Analyze production logs and support users during production issues.
