Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer for an IRS client in a fully remote capacity. The candidate must hold an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and bring extensive COBOL experience, DB2, and CICS expertise.

Strong communication and independent problem-solving skills are essential. Responsibilities include designing, coding, testing, documenting, and guiding other developers; updating FSP/PRP docs and related diagrams; ensuring quality through unit tests and code

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; 5+ years of experience or equivalent
• At least five years of IBM COBOL experience
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI)
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities
• Experience with CICS
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team; client support experience preferred
• Preferred IRS processing systems experience; SQL, JCL, Batch processing

Responsibilities

• Lead development of software solutions to meet business requirements
• Create, update, test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs
• Update documentation and diagrams as needed
• Track requirements and execute unit tests
• Rewrite programs using workflow charts and logic
• Revise and expand existing programs for efficiency
• Consult with managers and engineers to clarify intent
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks
• Prepare and annotate program documentation
• Collaborate with testers in SAT/FIT environments
