Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to expand the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. This remote role partners with the Product Marketing Director and engages utilities and key partners to accelerate growth, leveraging grid technologies and market insights.

The position requires deep knowledge of the U.S. utility landscape, IEEE/IEC standards, and experience with SaaS or subscription models. Travel up to 30% is possible, with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE/IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%—domestic and international.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership — Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities and shaping market penetration strategy.
• Technical engagement — Act as a grid‑automation SME, lead pre‑sales technical activities, and support solution design across architectures, protection systems, and integration workflows.
• Standards influence — Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, representing the company to help shape emerging grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation — Build strategic partnerships, represent the company at industry forums, and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
