Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to oversee fire safety across utility-scale energy storage, power, and industrial EPC projects. This fully remote role ensures code, standard, and client-spec compliance from concept through commissioning.

The role provides SME leadership, oversees EORs and design budgets, interfaces with AHJs, insurers, and vendors, and travels up to 25% as needed to ensure project success.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience with at least 2 years of energy infrastructure experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, or similar).
• P.E. license in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
• Experience with AHJs, fire marshals, and code officials for approvals and permitting.
• Strong knowledge of building codes (NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855).
• Proven ability to manage external consultants and multi-project deliverables.
• Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for complex fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish company-wide engineering standards and design criteria.
• Lead national fire protection code and standards committees.
• Interface with AHJs, insurers, and third-party EORs; travel as needed.
• Oversee BESS fire protection system projects and budgets.
• Develop basis-of-design documents and evaluation criteria for EORs and vendors.
• QA/QC of fire protection deliverables and cross-discipline collaboration.
• Support design optimization for cost and constructability.
