Job summary

Tempus in California is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build and own the data platform underpinning real-time clinical evaluation across federated hospital networks. The role emphasizes ownership, scalability, and secure data handling in a HIPAA-regulated environment.

You will design pipelines for EHR/genomics/imaging data, implement dbt models on BigQuery, and shape multi-modal patient records. Strong cloud, software, and healthcare domain experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production data pipelines.
• Experience with Google Cloud: BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage.
• Strong SQL and dbt or equivalent tooling.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Healthcare data standards and HIPAA awareness.

Responsibilities

• Build data pipelines feeding agents for real-time inference across EHR, genomics, and imaging.
• Own the warehouse and its transformations with dbt models on BigQuery, plus tests/docs.
• Model multi-modal patient records with normalized and dimensional design.
• Move data through event-driven services using Pub/Sub with reliability and idempotency.
• Develop TypeScript services and APIs for agent input/output and orchestration.
• Own infra in Google Cloud via Terraform including IAM and access controls.
• Scale for federated hospital networks with high availability and data governance.
• Ensure data quality and lineage with traceability back to source systems.
