Job summary

Tempus is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build and own the data platform underpinning the Patient Evaluation Engine. You will architect pipelines and models handling EHR, genomics, and imaging data, writing TypeScript services and Gov data layers for real-time analytics.

You will own the Google Cloud deployment, Terraform configurations, and multi-tenant, HIPAA-compliant data flows. This role emphasizes ownership, fast iteration, and collaboration with clinical teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building data-intensive software systems in production.
• 3+ years in data engineering with pipeline ownership and data modeling.
• 2+ years on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Secret Manager).
• 2+ years in HIPAA-regulated environments and EMR data integrations.
• 1+ years building AI data pipelines or agentic workflows.
• 2+ years handling structured and unstructured data at scale with data integrity.

Responsibilities

• Build pipelines feeding agents; fetch, parse, and serve structured/unstructured data for real-time inference.
• Own the warehouse and dbt models on BigQuery with tests and documentation.
• Model multi-modal patient records across EHR, genomics, and imaging domains.
• Move data through event-driven services using Pub/Sub and dead-letter handling.
• Make data agent-ready with metadata layers and retrieval services for AI agents.
• Develop TypeScript services and APIs for agent input/output and coordination.
• Extend the Google Cloud footprint in Terraform; manage IAM and access controls.
• Scale for federated hospital networks with high availability and multi-tenancy.
• Ensure data quality and traceability back to source systems.
• Implement observability, error tracking, and governance in HIPAA-compliant pipelines.
