Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Analyst - II to lead software configuration management and release engineering for VA-related projects. This remote, U.S.-based role focuses on cloud migration, CM tooling, and ensuring repeatable build and deployment across multiple environments.

Qualifications

• -Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps
• -Experience with CM practices (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting)
• -Experience with branching/merging strategies in Git family tools
• -Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions) and artifact repositories (Nexus, Artifactory)
• -Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python)
• -Experience managing COTS software, patches, and version control
• -IaC and environment management (Ansible, Terraform)
• -Knowledge of software quality standards, governance, and training developers on CM tools
• -Proficiency with JIRA, Azure Boards, Trello and documentation tools (Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart)
• -Understanding of database concepts, dependency management, and build reproducibility
• -Strong analytical skills for investigating build failures, dependency conflicts, deployments
• -Excellent communication and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• -Collaborative mentoring and multi-priority management in fast-paced environments
• -Commitment to continuous improvement and staying current with DevOps trends

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud
• Develop and maintain software configuration management tools for identification, control, reporting and delivery of software and COTS
• Perform CM and release engineering tasks ensuring parameters documented and compliant with hardware configurations
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve software modeling and development
• Design and implement build procedures to support software product development
• Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use
• Train software developers in CM tools and quality standards
• Provide technical guidance for complex problems
• Operate autonomously and make sound decisions
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build/deployment processes across projects
• Collaborate with stakeholders
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices
