Job summary

FWI is seeking a remote, full-time Hydromet Development Advisor to optimize the MRMS Hydromet/QPE codebase for the VCP-Agnostic MRMS version. You will apply specialized C++ expertise and advise on software architecture, coding strategy, and development risk for a system used by operational forecasters daily.

The role requires a BA/BS in a technical or business discipline and 4+ years of experience, with preferred skills in C++, Git, Python, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a technical or business discipline required.
• 4+ years of professional and/or academic experience required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the MRMS Hydromet/QPE codebase and develop recommendations and strategies for the planned VCP-Agnostic MRMS version.
• Advise on and, where appropriate, modify existing C++ code or contribute new code to support MRMS development.
• Provide expert technical guidance on software design, coding approach, and development risk for MRMS activities.
• Prepare technical documentation (schematics, code repositories, test reports) for development activities.
• Prepare quarterly status reports.
