Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to lead design, development, implementation, and optimization of battery energy storage systems across projects. The role is fully remote, with interview discussions for location specifics.

You will mentor engineers, manage design teams, and ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with customers, vendors, and internal groups to deliver scalable storage solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of BESS; including Li-ion, inverters, BMS, interconnection equipment.
• Expert knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, etc.).
• Experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, NFPA855).
• SCADA/EMS protocols (IEC 61850).
• Project management: budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
• Familiarity with EPC workflows and design deliverables.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• PE license preferred.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and provide guidance to project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS, ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and sizing analyses to propose optimal BESS configurations.
• Contribute across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV scopes on projects.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
• Develop and review specifications, drawings, and docs for BESS components for procurement.
• Oversee procurement oversight including vendor reviews and drawing checks.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Provide construction support including field issue resolution and redesigns.
• Support testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and synchronization.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulations.
• Support business development via proposals and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in customer meetings.
• Attend regular team meetings/calls; travel as needed.
