Job summary

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of anesthesia and pain coding experience.
• Knowledge of CPT/ASA coding elements and anesthesia claims.
• Understanding Medicare billing rules for anesthesia and pain services.
• Familiarity with NCCI, ICD10CM, CPT, and relevant modifiers.
• Strong anatomy, physiology and medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assigns appropriate CPT/ASA codes using CPT4/ASA manual and criteria, and ICD10CM codes to anesthesia visits.
• Determines time units, total units, and modifiers used in anesthesia cases based on documentation.
• Researches coding rules and resolves payer questions; escalates complex overlaps.
• Maintains work queues and coding assignments within processing timeframes, querying providers when needed.
• Follows protocols to promote timely filing of claims and coding accuracy.
