Job summary

BMC Health System is seeking a Physician Practice Coder-Anesthesia to review documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, ASA, HCPCS II codes with appropriate modifiers in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

The role requires at least two years of anesthesia coding/auditing experience, strong knowledge of coding guidelines, and the ability to work with physicians and revenue cycle stakeholders to improve accuracy and reduce denials.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or equivalent work experience.
• Certification in coding (AAPC or AHIMA) required with eligible CPT/COC/CIC credentials.
• Minimum 2 years anesthesia coding/auditing in a surgical/procedural setting with compliance and billing experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform anesthesia coding for CPT, ICD-10, ASA, HCPCS II and modifiers accurately.
• Review medical documentation and charges; ensure correct coding and reimbursement.
• Research billing rules and denials; perform root cause analysis and provider feedback.
• Maintain coding credentials through ongoing in-service programs and trainings.
• Resolves complex coding edits and denials; provide guidance to clinicians and staff.
