Job summary

Humana Inc in the United States is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of the NBA platform's agentic AI capabilities. This is a hands-on role; you will write production code and also lead a small team of engineers and contractors focused on AI-powered workflows.

You will design multi‑step AI pipelines, integrate LLMs (Claude, GPT, or equivalents), and ensure reliable, auditable AI experiences in a regulated healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years software or ML engineering with 1–2 years LLM integration or AI product engineering.
• Hands‑on production agentic systems experience with multi‑step pipelines and tool orchestration.
• Experience with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills for production AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into real applications.
• Ability to lead a small team or pod and manage contractors.
• Judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated, member‑facing contexts.
• Clear communication to engineers and product owners; familiarity with AI productivity tools.

Responsibilities

• Agentic AI delivery: design, build, and own AI agent workflows across UI and internal tooling.
• Hands‑on development: write and ship production code alongside your team.
• AI workflow design: architect multi‑step pipelines with data layers and activation channels.
• LLM integration: manage Claude/OpenAI integrations, prompts, and context handling.
• User‑facing AI experiences: partner with frontend/product teams for AI‑driven insights.
• Evaluation and reliability: build test frameworks to ensure quality, safety and auditability.
• Contractor management: lead AI engineering contractors within your pod.
• AI productivity tooling: promote best practices across the engineering org.
