Job summary

Humana seeks a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities across the NBA platform’s interfaces and tooling. This hands-on role expects you to write production AI code while leading a small team and coordinating contractors.

You will architect multi-step AI pipelines, integrate Claude/OpenAI APIs, and ensure reliable, auditable outputs in a regulated healthcare context. Strong collaboration with product and frontend teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software or ML engineering with 1–2 years in LLM integration or AI product work.
• Hands-on production agentic systems with multi-step pipelines and tool orchestration.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation and vector search.
• Strong Python: production-grade AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into real applications.
• Proven ability to lead a small team and manage contractors.
• Judgment on AI use in regulated, member-facing contexts.
• Clear communication across engineers and product owners.
• Fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows across UI and tooling.
• Write production code; minimal supervision.
• Architect multi-step AI pipelines integrating with data and decisioning.
• Integrate LLMs into workflows with prompt engineering and context mgmt.
• Partner with frontend/product to embed AI-driven insights in UI.
• Develop evaluation frameworks for AI output quality and safety.
• Manage AI engineering contractors within your pod.
• Promote AI productivity tooling across the org.
