Job summary

Humana seeks a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities across the NBA platform, building production AI systems each sprint. You will lead a small team of engineers and contractors, architect multi-step AI pipelines, and integrate LLMs into workflows and user-facing experiences.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering with 1–2 years in LLM integration or AI product engineering
• Hands-on production agentic systems experience: multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversations
• Experience with RAG patterns and vector search in production
• Strong Python engineering skills for production-grade AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI) into real applications
• Leadership or mentoring of a small team or pod with contractor management
• Clear communication with engineers and product owners
• Proficiency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot)

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of agentic AI workflows that surface intelligent analysis, recommendations, and automation across the platform
• Hands-on development: write and ship production code alongside your team
• Architect multi-step AI pipelines integrating with data layer, decisioning outputs, and activation channels
• Own the integration of large language models into platform workflows, including prompts, tool use, and context management
• Partner with frontend/product teams to bring AI-powered analysis into UI surfaces
• Build evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality and ensure reliability, auditable safety in healthcare context
• Manage AI engineering contractors within your pod; set expectations and review work
• Model best practices for AI-assisted development across the engineering org
• Use your skills to make an impact
