Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and deliver agentic AI capabilities across the NBA platform, while actively contributing as a senior engineer.

You will lead a small team of engineers and contractors, delivering AI-powered workflows and intelligent analysis in user-facing experiences, with a focus on reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will directly own hands-on development, architecture of multi-step AI pipelines, and integration of Claude or OpenAI models

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with 1–2 years focusing on LLMs and agentic AI.
• Hands-on production AI systems development; not purely supervisory.
• Experience with RAG patterns and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills for production AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.).
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod and manage contractors.
• Good judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated, member-facing contexts.
• Clear communication to engineers and product owners.

Responsabilités

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows surfacing intelligent analysis and automation.
• Write and ship production code alongside the team; hands-on role.
• Architect multi-step pipelines integrating data layers, decisions, and activations.
• Own Claude, GPT, or equivalents integration, including prompts and outputs.
• Collaborate with frontend/product to bring AI insights to interfaces.
• Develop evaluation frameworks ensuring reliability, auditable outputs, and safety.
• Manage AI engineering contractors within the pod and set quality expectations.
• Model best practices for AI-assisted development across the organization.
