Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and deliver agentic AI capabilities for our NBA platform. This role is hands-on first, with responsibility for production AI systems and leading a small team of engineers and contractors.

You will architect multi-step AI pipelines, integrate large language models, and ship AI-powered experiences in user interfaces and internal tools, while ensuring reliability and safety in a regulated healthcare context.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with at least 1-2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering.
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems with multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversation management.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation patterns and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills for shipping production-grade AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into real applications (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents).
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractors.

Responsibilities

• Agentic AI delivery: design, build, and own AI agent workflows across interfaces and tooling.
• Hands-on development: write and ship production code alongside your team.
• AI workflow design: architect multi-step pipelines that connect data, decisioning, and activation channels.
• LLM integration: own Claude, GPT, or equivalents integration, including prompts and context management.
• User-facing AI experiences: collaborate with frontend/product teams to bring AI-driven insights to operators.
