Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities for the NBA platform.

You will actively write production code, lead a small team, and architect multi-step agentic pipelines that surface intelligent analysis and automation across user interfaces and internal tooling. You will integrate Claude/OpenAI-type models, ensure reliability, and collaborate with frontend and product teams to deliver AI-powered experiences in a regulated healthcare

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering with 1–2 years in LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems including multi-step pipelines and tool orchestration
• Experience with RAG patterns and vector search in production environments
• Strong Python engineering skills for production-grade AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents) into real applications
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod and manage contractors
• Good judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated, member-facing contexts
• Clear communication to engineers and product owners
• Familiarity with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows delivering intelligent analysis, recommendations, and automation
• Write production-grade code hands-on with your team; not merely supervising
• Architect multi-step pipelines integrating with data and decisioning outputs
• Integrate large language models (Claude, GPT or equivalents) into workflows
• Collaborate with frontend/product teams to embed AI experiences in UI
• Develop evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality and reliability
• Lead AI engineering contractors within your pod and set quality standards
• Model best practices for AI development across the organization
• Contribute to making AI usage safe and compliant in healthcare settings
