Job summary

Humana, Inc. seeks a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of the NBA platform's agentic AI capabilities.

This hands-on role requires you to write production code while leading a small team of engineers and contractors focused on AI-powered workflows and intelligent analysis within platform UI and tooling. You will architect multi-step pipelines, integrate Claude/OpenAI style models, and collaborate with frontend/product teams to deliver AI-driven experiences.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with at least 1-2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems - multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversation management
• Experience with RAG patterns and vector search - built retrieval-augmented systems in production
• Strong Python engineering skills; shipping production-grade AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents) into real applications
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources
• Strong judgment on when AI is the right tool in regulated contexts
• Clear communicator for engineers and product owners
• Deep fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Agentic AI delivery - design, build, and own AI agent workflows across UI and tooling
• Hands-on development - write and ship production code with your team
• AI workflow design - architect multi-step pipelines with data, decisioning, and activation
• LLM integration - manage prompt engineering and context handling
• User-facing AI experiences - partner with frontend/product to embed AI insights
• Evaluation and reliability - build frameworks to measure AI output quality
