Job summary

Twilio seeks a Senior AI Architect - Conversation AI to shape our AI strategy and lead the design of scalable ML/AI systems. This remote-first role will influence architecture, drive cross-team initiatives, and guide production-grade AI capabilities powering Twilio’s customer engagement platform.

You will balance high-level strategy with hands-on technical work, mentoring engineers and ensuring responsible AI practices across the stack. Remote work is supported worldwide.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering with 6+ years on production ML systems at scale.
• Extensive ML Ops and LLM Ops experience, with rigorous eval metrics and retraining loops.
• Deep knowledge of transformer models, LLM orchestration, embeddings, and vector stores.
• Understanding of Context Engineering lifecycle and semantic retrieval across multi-turn conversations.
• Strong cloud service experience (AWS/GCP/Azure) and high-volume data handling.
• Exceptional communication skills with proven mentorship and cross-team influence.
• Master's/PhD in CS/ML/Data Science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive a long-term AI/ML architectural vision aligned with business goals.
• Own the roadmap for ML/AI Ops platform and tooling across the organization.
• Evaluate modern LLM architectures, RAG, and inference optimizations.
• Lead architecture for agentic AI systems including orchestration, reasoning, tool use, grounding.
• Stay current with AI research and industry trends; translate to production.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Product Management to map milestones to customer value.
• Contribute hands-on technical leadership while setting strategic direction.
