Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Software Developer in Test (SDET) for a 100% remote position focused on Veterans Affairs. This full-time role requires advanced programming skills (C#, .NET, Java, or Python) and a track record in both manual and automated testing.

You will develop test plans, write test scripts, and lead verification activities across information systems and services.

Qualifications

Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
Proven track record on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
Experience in both manual and automated testing.
Experience with Agile/Scrum and SDLC understanding.
Proficiency in writing/executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
Knowledge of test automation frameworks/tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with Git and Subversion.
Understanding of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla).
Knowledge of databases/SQL for data validation.
Testing of web apps, APIs, and services.
Understanding of security testing practices/tools.
Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT testing.
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and collaboration abilities.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Attention to detail and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure information systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
Write test cases/scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers and leads.
Perform and lead tests on software/IT systems for defects.
Verify work products using defined methods and criteria.
Document and communicate test results.
Support analysis of test results and issue resolution.
Document and work to resolve complex problems.
Report progress on problem resolution to management.
Develop improvements to procedures and models for future configurations.
Create daily test metrics and reporting.
Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities.
Apply technical principles to meet objectives.
Provide direction to employees per policies.
Measure whether objectives are met.
Provide technical solutions to difficult problems.
Ensure solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practical.
Independently determine and develop solutions.
Review work for adequacy against objectives.
Demonstrate good judgment in methods/techniques.
Contribute to completion of programs/projects.
Maintain frequent inter-organizational/customer contact.
Represent organization in solving technical issues on projects.
