Job summary

Rex.zone is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer for a fully remote, full-time role in the United States. You will design, implement, and maintain robotics software components spanning perception, state estimation, SLAM, planning, and controls, ensuring reliable operation in simulation and on hardware.

Responsibilities include building ROS/ROS2 nodes, sensor driver pipelines, SLAM and state estimation, motion planning, and sim-to-real workflows.

Qualifications

  • Mid‑Senior level experience building production robotics software in C++ and/or Python.
  • Strong ROS/ROS2 development skills (messages, tf2, lifecycle nodes, launch, bagging).
  • Hands‑on understanding of kinematics, coordinate frames, transforms, and calibration workflows.
  • Experience with at least one autonomy area: perception, SLAM, motion planning, or controls.
  • Comfort working with Linux, Git, Docker, and automated testing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain ROS/ROS2 nodes for perception, localization, mapping, planning, and control.
  • Implement sensor drivers and time-synchronization pipelines for camera, LiDAR, radar, and IMU inputs.
  • Develop and tune SLAM and state estimation with sensor fusion and covariance handling.
  • Improve motion planning and trajectory tracking for dynamic environments.
  • Create reproducible simulation scenarios in Gazebo/Ignition and close the sim-to-real gap.
  • Instrument, profile, and optimize latency, memory, and throughput for real-time constraints.
  • Ship maintainable code with unit/integration tests, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Document interfaces, calibration assumptions, and runbooks for deployment and QA.
