Job summary

Merck is seeking a Growth and Improvement minded Regional Medical Scientific Director (MSL) in Respiratory - COPD to drive our strategic priorities. The role focuses on scientific exchange, trials support, and leadership within Merck's Medical Affairs team.

You will engage with national and regional SLs, uphold GCP and SOP adherence, and travel up to 50% in the North East region (MA, CT, VT, RI, NH, ME). A PhD/DO/MD level degree and 3+ years COPD/Respiratory experience required.

Qualifications

• Proven competence and a minimum of 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond that obtained in the terminal degree program, e.g., COPD/Respiratory.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• Principled verbal and written communications.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders.
• Dedication to scientific excellence with a strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
• Thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other ethical guidelines relevant to pharmaceutical industry.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a changing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional SLs to ensure access to company-approved medical information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a reliable presence with SLs to provide medical contact within the company.
• Addresses scientific questions and directs inquiries to appropriate company resources.
• Keeps current knowledge of the scientific environment in the Areas of Interest for the therapeutic area.
• Initiates discussions with SLs and potential investigators to align with research strategies and assess scientific merit of studies.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention to achieve study milestones.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II-IV programs and participates in Site Initiation Visits.
• Engages in scientific congresses and supports data exchange for company and competitor data.
• Gathers feedback and scientific insights to inform medical priorities and needs of SLs and patients.
