Job summary

Square is seeking a software/data engineer to join the Recon and Reporting team, owning end-to-end projects that ingest and reconcile global settlement data from card networks and partners. You will contribute to end-to-end traceability, build reporting features, and support tax/regulatory reporting across multiple regimes.

The role requires 3+ years in data engineering, strong SQL and distributed systems knowledge, and experience delivering projects with CI/CD and testing.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Experience building or maintaining batch- or event-driven data pipelines with orchestration tech.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, or Go and strong SQL.
• End-to-end project delivery with guidance from engineers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to quality: testing, CI/CD, observability.
• Experience using AI tools in the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own small, end-to-end projects with defined requirements and delivery.
• Build features for ingestion and reconciliation pipelines.
• Contribute to tooling for end-to-end traceability of funds.
• Develop reporting and reconciliation features for finance teams and merchants.
• Produce journals and summaries for accounting and audits.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, data, finance, tax, and compliance.
