Job summary

Block in San Francisco seeks a software/data engineer to join the Recon and Reporting team. You will own end-to-end data pipelines that ingest settlement data from card networks and reconcile it against internal records to power settlement, tax, and regulatory reporting.

You will collaborate with engineers, product, and finance to deliver reliable, scalable solutions. You will build features for ingestion, reconciliation, and reporting, contribute to traceability tooling, and help validate work

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent.
• Experience with batch- or event-driven data pipelines and workflow orchestration.
• Proficiency in at least one major language (Java, Python, Go) and strong SQL.
• End-to-end project delivery with guidance from senior engineers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Emphasis on maintainable, testable code, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience using AI tools in the SDLC.

Responsibilities

• Own small, well-bounded projects end-to-end with guidance.
• Build and maintain ingestion and reconciliation pipelines.
• Contribute to tooling for end-to-end traceability of money flows.
• Develop reporting and reconciliation features for accuracy and scalability.
• Produce journals and summaries for downstream accounting and audits.
• Contribute to regulatory reporting systems (IRS 1099, CESOP, etc.).
• Support AML/KYC and handle sensitive data securely.
• Review peers' work and document learnings.
• Automate repetitive tasks and improve processes where possible.
