Job summary

James Moore & Co., CPAs is seeking a Project Accountant to join our CFO Services Advisory team. You will own the accounting infrastructure and monthly close for a portfolio of manufacturing clients, designing scalable processes and collaborating with client staff to ensure financial integrity.

This role is remote with preference for the southeastern United States and hours in the Eastern time zone. You will onboard new clients, implement best practices, manage full-cycle close, advise on budgets

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of full-cycle accounting experience with primary ownership of month-end close.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and at least one ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills for budgeting and forecasting.
• Experience improving or building a close process, not just executing one.
• Ability to work directly with client accounting staff and owners.
• Bachelor's or Associate degree in Accounting or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead onboarding for new CFO Services clients: chart of accounts review and mapping, historical cleanup.
• Assess client accounting environments and recommend fixes or replacements.
• Design and document the monthly close: calendar, checklist, ownership matrix, templates.
• Build reusable onboarding and close templates for faster engagements.
• Train client staff on close processes and address capability gaps.
• Serve as day-to-day accounting resource between close cycles.
• Own full-cycle close including journals, accruals, depreciation, reconciliations.
• Run AP/AR processes and cash application; manage collections follow-up.
• Prepare month-end reporting packages for CFO advisor review.
• Manufacturing accounting focus: inventory, job costing, standard costing, tie to GL.
• Build budgets/forecasts and rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts.
• Support variance analysis, KPI reporting, and board/lender reporting.
• Leverage Excel and AI tools to streamline reconciliation and data cleanup.
