Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is seeking a remote PRN professional coder to review and code inpatient and outpatient hospital records, ED, Home Health and professional services. You will ensure compliant coding for reimbursement and research, and support quality initiatives.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1–3 years coding experience, and credentials such as CCS/CPC. Proficiency with Word/Excel/PowerPoint and encoder tools is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have one of the coding certifications at hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H or CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with a credential within one year.
• 1–3 years of coder experience required.
• Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; encoder experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review patients' full medical record and assign CPT, ICD and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement and research.
• Abstract data for the Quality Improvement department and Joint Commission reporting.
• Access multiple systems to research records and complete coding timely; pursue missing documentation.
• Resolve pre-bill edits/denials for assigned accounts.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and regulatory changes.
• Communicate issues to Coding Manager/Supervisor and demonstrate ability to code multiple service areas.
• Maintain at least 95% accuracy and productivity per policy; meet CE requirements.
