Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire and life safety across utility-scale solar, storage, and high voltage substation projects. This fully remote role requires coordinating with AHJs, insurers, and engineers to meet codes, standards, and client specs from concept through commissioning.

You will establish engineering standards, manage EORs and budgets, and mentor the SOLV team while traveling up to 25% as needed. A PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience with at least 2 years in energy infrastructure.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline.
• P.E. license in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
• Experience working with AHJs, including fire marshals and code officials.
• Knowledge of NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855 and related codes.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level guidance on complex fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish company-wide engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices.
• Lead and participate in national fire protection code committees and related activities.
• Interface with AHJs, insurers, and engineers; travel as required.
• Oversee BESS fire protection system design, basis-of-design documents, scopes of work, and budgets.
• QA/QC of third-party work products to ensure standards and project requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical and SCADA to ensure design consistency.
• Support design optimization for cost, performance, and constructability.
• Provide technical support during testing and commissioning.
• Lead engagement with Owners and provide technical training to the team.
