Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire safety across utility-scale storage and power projects. This fully remote role reports into a strategic SME for fire protection and life safety, ensuring code compliance, insurance alignment, and safe project delivery from design through commissioning.

The position requires 10+ years in fire protection engineering, a related degree (P.E. preferred), and ability to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience with energy infrastructure background.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
• Proven experience coordinating with AHJs, fire marshals, and code officials for approvals and permitting.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855 codes and related engineering standards.
• Ability to manage external consultants and multiple contracts.
• Detail-oriented with strong communication and project coordination.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Provide SME guidance on complex fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices.
• Lead national fire protection code committees and contribute expertise for energy storage.
• Interface with AHJs, insurers, and independent engineers on fire and life safety topics.
• Oversee fire protection system design for BESS projects and related budgets.
• Coordinate with electrical and SCADA teams to ensure design consistency.
• Support testing and commissioning of fire protection systems.
