Job summary

Watch Duty, a nonprofit focused on real-time public-safety information, seeks a People Operations Lead (IC) to own the full operating surface of People Ops alongside the SVP. This is the first dedicated hire beyond the executive leader, building scalable systems for a growing mission-driven organization.

The role blends strategy with hands-on execution across onboarding, benefits, HRIS, compliance, employee relations, and recruitment support.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive People Operations / HR generalist experience.
• Ability to operate at both altitudes: building org-wide process and executing hands-on operational work.
• Experience in a scrappy or startup-stage environment with a small People function.
• Employee relations experience with good judgment and discretion.
• Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with HRIS and recruiting systems (Greenhouse) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the day-to-day People Operations stack: onboarding/offboarding, benefits, HRIS, records, leave, compliance.
• Serve as first point of contact for policies, benefits, and People matters.
• Design and improve org-wide processes and cross-functional systems across HR, IT, and Ops.
• Handle day-to-day employee relations with confidentiality and independent judgment.
• Develop and run employee engagement programs for a fully remote workforce.
• Provide hands-on recruiting operations support during hiring surges (Greenhouse).
• Ensure compliance for domestic and international workers across programs.
